Bar Harbor council backs rehab of major street
Bar Harbor’s town council designated $25,000 for an infrastructure design study on Cottage Street, one of the popular summer tourist town’s two main corridors central to commerce, the waterfront and pedestrian traffic, the Mount Desert Islander reported.
According to a report on downtown development districts in Bar Harbor, parking improvements to relieve traffic congestion and sidewalk and streetscape improvements — such as buried utilities, street lighting and sidewalk lighting — are top priorities in the area that includes Cottage Street. The improvements are seen as a way to establish connectivity with Main Street, the other primary corridor, and draw visitors to the downtown’s commercial district.
The town previously invested in Main Street, creating attractive lighting, underground wiring, brick surfaces and seating, the paper reported.
