Norway co-op aims for net zero energy consumption
Members of the Fare Share Co-op, an all-natural grocery store in downtown Norway, are working on the second phase of their long-term goal of reaching net zero energy consumption for its building, The Advertiser Democrat reported.
The biggest part of Phase 2 was to relocate the compressors for the basement and bring in a new energy-efficient, LED-lit cooler.
Future work in the basement includes insulating the space.
“The goal is to sort of build sort of a wind tunnel down there that can be opened up during the winter time to spread the heat from the compressors in the basement,” General Manager Emmy Andersson told the paper. “But in the summertime we will have an air intake … so that we can efficiently cool the basement.”
Phase 1 included installation of heat pumps and LED lighting throughout the co-op, after obtaining funds from Efficiency Maine.
