Darling's Auto plans $5M Augusta expansion

The Darling’s Auto Group dealership in Augusta this summer is slated to move into a new and larger facility with an expanded service bay, which is expected to improve customer service and allow Darling’s to become a Business Choice Dealer, which means it can sell and service heavy-duty trucks, the Kennebec Journal reported.

The building the dealership currently occupies will be demolished and the site will be converted into a parking area. Darling’s will invest more than $5 million, Lance Quinn, Darling’s general manager in Augusta, told the paper.

Darling’s got its start in 1903 selling cars, trucks and bicycles and is today one of the largest dealership groups in Maine, according to its website. The company has grown from one brand and one location to 14 brands at six locations around the state, including three in Bangor, two in Ellsworth and one in Augusta, with a workforce of more than 490.

In Augusta, the scale of the investment signals confidence in the Augusta community, Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Ross Cunningham told the paper.

“It is not only evidence of their strong business growth, but also demonstrates their belief in the future of the greater Augusta region,” Cunningham said.
