Tattoos for you too, Paris

Can a tattoo parlor help with the revitalization of Market Square in Paris?

Why not? According to the Advertiser Democrat, Explosive Ink in Paris, Maine, was recently opened by Carlos Portillo. It joins a booming industry of 15,000 parlors across the nation, generating revenue of $2.3 billion in 2012, according to The Week.

Portillo told the paper he hopes the eye-catching mural that he painted on the front windows and doors of his shop will help draw customers. He’s also renovating the space to include a beauty salon and art gallery.

“I painted it myself. … If they can see that I can do that stuff on the window and on top of everything do it all backwards and reversed [maybe they’ll want a tattoo],” Portillo told the Advertiser Democrat. “It was fun.”

According to the town’s strategic plan for Market Square, historic Market Square is the focus of a goals to attract new business, and retain existing businesses, in order to spark economic stimulus.
