Portland’s Miyake restaurant owner recognized by SBA

On Thursday, the U.S. Small Business Administration announced its annual award winners of 2016. Among the winners was Masahiko Miyake, chef and owner of Miyake, at 468 Fore St. in downtown Portland.

Miyake was selected to receive the SBA Minority-Owned Small Business of the Year Award for Maine and New England.

“I am delighted to congratulate Mr. Miyake on his success in owning and operating two restaurants and a farm,” said Marilyn Geroux, SBA District Director for Maine in a statement. “Mr. Miyake’s hard work and dedication have been instrumental in his success, and the U.S. Small Business Administration is pleased to have been an early supporter of his efforts through our Microloan Program.”

Miyake was nominated for the award by Jennifer Sporzynski, senior program director at Coastal Enterprises Inc.

“It has been a true honor working with Masa, originally helping him start his business so many years ago and now watching him bring his vision to life with his two restaurants and his farm,” said Sporzynski. “It is wonderful that the Small Business Administration has acknowledged his hard work [and delicious food] as well.”
