Gas prices stay above $2 per gallon price point

In the past week, the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in the state rose just short of a nickel, bringing the statewide average to $2.09 per gallon.

During that same period, the average national price for a gallon of gas rose by just two cents to $2.06, according to the popular price tracking website GasBuddy.

The $2.09 statewide average reported on Monday is still 31 cents lower than one year ago and is on level with the average price per gallon in Vermont. New Hampshire edges both states out with an average price of $2.00, up 3 cents from last week.

“The end of March last week capped a 30.5 cent per gallon jump in the national retail gasoline price average for the month. As prices now sit at the highest since November 2015, April brings the final phase of the transition to the more expensive summer-blend gasoline,” said Will Speer, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy. “Southern California was the first region in the United States to complete the summer-blend switchover on Friday, while the rest of the United States follows suit at the end of the month.
