Farmington officials move forward with apartment demolition

The Farmington Board of Selectmen has its sights set on demolishing a three-story apartment complex in order to create a 28-space municipal parking lot, the Kennebec Journal reported.

The four-unit, 4,754-square-foot building was purchased in November for $80,000 by the town following the death of its owner.

An advisory committee suggested the action as a way to alleviate downtown parking problems, stemming from limited street parking on Broadway and Main Street, combined with a population of University of Maine at Farmington students who live off-campus and use the town’s lots.
