Oxford Casino expansion tabled by town officials

The owner of Oxford Casino, Churchill Downs, has proposed an expansion that would double the restaurant and bar capacity of the casino, in addition to adding a 106-room hotel on three upper floors above the casino and a first-floor 275-seat multipurpose room.

The Oxford Planning Board recently voted to table a decision on the project until its May 12 meeting, according to the Advertiser Democrat.

“This is a tremendous amount of information to digest here,” board member Dennis Fournier told the Advertiser Democrat. “I need time to read this so I can make an intelligent decision.”

Civil engineer Robert Berry, of the Livermore Falls-based Main-Land Development Consultants, told the board the company would like to begin construction in August with a possible “soft opening” slated for April 2017.
