Whiting's wind a valuable commodity
New restrictions added to the town of Whiting’s Wind Energy Ordinance — increasing the setback from 3,700 feet to one mile and adding a 400-foot height restriction for wind turbines — haven’t deterred the wind energy company Atlantic Wind LLC from its evaluation of a site for a potential wind project.
Atlantic Wind has entered into 24 lease and easement agreements with property owners in the communities of Trescott, Whiting, Cutler and Jonesboro according to the Quoddy Tides.
Atlantic Wind is a subsidiary of the Iberdrola S.A.-based Iberdrola Renewables, the fourth largest utility company in the world.
"We're still actively developing the site and maintaining leases,” Iberdrola Renewables spokesperson Paul Copleman told the Quoddy Tides.
Copleman told the Quoddy Tides that technology options and site layout will take into account Whiting’s new height and setback restrictions.
