Maine gas prices remain steady as national price drops

The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in the state remained unchanged in the past week, stemming recent increases.

During that same period, the average national price for a gallon of gas dropped to $2.20, according to the popular price tracking website GasBuddy.

The $2.29 statewide average reported on Tuesday morning is higher than both New Hampshire's $2.18 average price per gallon and lower than Vermont's average price of $2.28 per gallon.

“It would be a mistake to read too much into the temporary 'plateau' for fuel prices that's evident right now," Gregg Laskoski, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy, said in a statement. “Prices at the pump should remain fairly flat this week, particularly with thunderstorms and flash flooding reducing demand as that weather is forecast to move today through Wednesday across many of the Central Plains and Southern states."
