A taste of the Windy City coming to South Portland
What you’ll find at the new South Portland location of Chicago Dogs when it opens this summer: the mac-and-cheese dog, which is a hot dog smothered in macaroni and cheese; the Carolina dog, which is loaded with both coleslaw and pulled pork. What you likely won’t see: ketchup. These are after all, Chicago-style hot dogs.
After a decade in Scarborough serving Chicago-style dogs — which are known for their poppy-seed buns, bright green relish, celery salt and sliced tomatoes — Chicago Dogs owner Joe Palmieri will be setting-up shop at 671 Main St. in South Portland on July 1, according to The Forecaster.
In addition to an extra 2,000-square-feet and an industrial kitchen, the new location also adds 18 beer taps, many of which will be pouring local brews.
After scouting potential locations, including Portland’s Old Port and near the Maine Mall, Palmieri told The Forecaster that the South Portland location was a “perfect spot” and that he hopes moving to the west end of the city will encourage other businesses to see the appeal of the neighborhood for development.
