Maine’s unemployment rate holds its ground at 3.4%

The Maine Department of Labor has released its preliminary unemployment data for April, reporting that the state’s unemployment rate remained at 3.4% during the month — unchanged from March.

Compared to the same time last year, the unemployment rate in Maine was down 1.1% from 4.5%, according to the department’s release.

The drop in Maine’s jobless rate is largely contributed to an estimated decline in the number of people looking for work in the state.

Nationally, the U.S. preliminary unemployment rate also remained flat from March at 5%, according to the labor department.
