Shuttered Brunswick health care provider files for bankruptcy

Brunswick-based Merrymeeting Behavioral Health Associates has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy almost two months after its abrupt closure left 180 without work and hundreds more of its clients without necessary services.

According to the Bangor Daily News, the behavioral health company claims $107,332 in assets and $266,636 in liabilities owed to between 200 and 999 unsecured creditors, including the company’s close to 200 former employees.

As reported by the BDN in late March, in a letter to Brunswick Council Chairwoman Sarah Brayman and officials at the Bureau of Employment Standards and Department of Labor, Merrymeeting's human resources director Kacie Parker, said the organization's loss of MaineCare coverage directly contributed to its closing.
