Matrix Pavilion setting the stage for inaugural concert

The new owner of the Matrix Pavilion at Mount Jefferson Resort, formerly known as the Mount Jefferson Ski Area, is gearing up for the inaugural concert this Saturday at the soon-to-be opened, year-round resort in Lee.

The Bangor Daily News visited the Matrix Pavilion, where owner Kevin Zimmerman was busy watching riggers and construction workers assembling the stage for the weekend’s concert where the Rustic Overtones and Wylde Lyfe — both bands from Maine — will be playing from 7-10 p.m. at the 2,000-capacity venue.

“Things are looking pretty good. We are about a day or two from being completely ready to go,” Zimmerman told the BDN.

Zimmerman purchased the 160-acre Mount Jefferson Ski Area and a six-acre plot adjacent to it for an undisclosed price in January. The crew working on getting the resort prepared for visitors has already leveled acres of trees and planted grass where the audience will sit during concerts, according to the BDN.

Later this year, the Mount Jefferson Resort will also host its music festival, where 14 national and local acts will perform on the weekend of July 29-31. Performers slated to appear include Adam Ezra, Murcielago, Roots of Creation and Paranoid Social Club.
