Shuttered Margaritas makes way for adult milkshakes

The Portsmouth restaurateur behind the New Hampshire eateries, The Green Monkey and Brazo, has announced his plans for a 100-seat eatery that will feature grass-fed beef and adult milkshakes at the former Margaritas Mexican Restaurant in Portland’s downtown.

So what exactly is an adult milkshake? For $10, sugar and alcohol fans will get the usual soft serve ice cream of a milk shake, but it will be mixed with select adult beverages for concoctions that will include almond and coconut with dark rum or rich chocolate and patron shakes, according to the Bangor Daily News.

Carolyn Gregory, director of operations at the eatery which will be known as BRGR Bar, told the BDN that the national recognition of Portland as a culinary destination makes it a great fit for the eatery which is expected to open in late August on the first floor of the Brown Street building.

“We can now carry the Maine beers we love, but can’t get in New Hampshire like Bissell Brothers,” Gregory told the BDN.

In addition to grass-fed beef from Maine Family Farms, BRGR will also serve bison and duck burgers as well as mahi mahi, Gregory told the BDN.
