Maine original, CLYNK, expands into New York

The South Portland-based bottle redemption company CLYNK has announced that it will be expanding its drop-off locations into 51 Hannaford supermarkets in New York — more than doubling its current operational footprint of 49 drop-off locations in Hannaford locations across Maine.

The company, which was founded in 2006 and has processed more than 600 million containers since then, said it plans to open the new drop-off locations in the greater Albany area before the end of 2017.

“Since March of this year, we have opened 13 of the 51 CLYNK drop locations in the greater Albany area,” CLYNK founder and CEO Clayton Kyle said in a prepared statement. “We’re very pleased with the way the market has reacted and hope to make a real difference in the communities where we operate.”

Unlike other bottle redemption services, CLYNK offers a bag-drop system that eliminates waiting in line and separating containers by material type. Within two business days, CLYNK processes the bags and funds are available in a customer’s account that can be redeemed for cash or groceries.
