The Maine Department of Economic Development will help entrepreneur competition Greenlight Maine at least double its purse to $200,000 in season two, and expand its reach in the state with the aim of also creating more jobs in the state.

“Thru the power of this public-private partnership, Greenlight Maine and Maine DECD will provide additional intellectual and financial capital to participating entrepreneurs and startups to fuel related jobs in our state,” Brian Corcoran, partner in Portland Media Group, which is behind Greenlight Maine, wrote in an email responding to questions from Mainebiz.

The winner of season one of Greenlight Maine, which has been airing weekly after Bill Green’s Maine on Saturday evenings, will be announced tonight as Maine Startup & Create Week culminates.

Corcoran said Maine DECD will provide Greenlight Maine with a $100,000 investment that will directly benefit the growth of its annual prize purse grants.

“We are in active conversations with other private and public foundations with goal of doubling the Greenlight Maine prize purse and related grants from $100,000 in season 1 — to $200,000+ in season two,” Corcoran wrote.
