Maine private school awarded $10M grant, largest in its history
Hebron Academy has received a $10 million grant, the largest gift in the private school’s 212-year history, from the Albert Lepage Foundation. Lepage is the former president of Lepage Bakeries in Lewiston.
According to the school, the multi-million dollar grant from the Albert Lepage Foundation will be used to complete renovations at The Albert Lepage Center for the Arts, including the creation of a music performance and classroom space, upgrades to the Androscoggin Theater that will include theater-style seating and expanded backstage and set space.
The gift will also establish the Albert Lepage Center for Diversity on the campus. The funds will endow a director of the Center for Diversity to support recruiting, hiring and mentoring of minority faculty and administrators. The money also will provide financial aid to make Hebron Academy affordable to a broad range of families.
"In my 50-year association with Hebron, I have seen how the arts and a diverse community have helped students grow into outstanding adults. My goal is to have my gift continue this tradition for generations to come," Lepage said in a release from the school.
