Maine’s largest medical marijuana group moving midcoast operations

Wellness Connection of Maine, the largest medical marijuana dispensary group in the state, is moving its midcoast dispensary location from the Knox County town of Thomaston to downtown Bath.

According to Wellness Connection officials, the decision to relocate approximately an hour away from Thomaston was driven by an increased demand for space, privacy and a more centralized location.

“We love our Thomaston members and remain grateful to the community that welcomed and embraced us for so long,” Wellness Connection CEO Patricia Rosi said in a prepared statement.

Wellness Connection’s move to Centre Street in Bath will happen later this summer, according to a release from the organization. The over 1,000 patients currently using the Thomaston location will be transferred to Bath, unless otherwise requested.

Wellness Connection operates four dispensaries and one cultivation facility in the state. The company has created more than 80 permanent jobs across five Maine counties and hundreds of ancillary jobs. According to a release from the organization, additional jobs will be created with the move to downtown Bath.

Medical marijuana continues to be a growing industry for the state, as the Maine Revenue Service reports that in 2015 the $23.6 million in sales at dispensaries generated $1.29 million in sales tax.

This $23.6 million in sales is up 46% compared to 2014, when dispensaries sold $16.2 million worth of medical marijuana and related products, generating more than $892,000 in tax revenue for the state.
