Feds award $4M for Maine airport expansion projects

Airports across the state continue to get significant boosts from the U.S. Department of Transportation, as another pair of transportation hubs has been awarded a total of $3,930,515 in federal grant funds.

The Portland International Jetport has been awarded $2,801,215 for an 8,300-square-yard expansion of its existing apron, allowing the bustling airport to accommodate the growing use of the terminal aviation facilities.

The Bangor International Airport will also receive $1,129,300 that will be used to buy and install a new passenger loading bridge for its domestic terminal building.

“The Portland International Jetport and the Bangor International Airport are important pieces of our transportation infrastructure that help connect Maine to the rest of the country and the world,” U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King said in a joint statement. “These investments will help increase safety and convenience for the hundreds of thousands of passengers who use the Portland and Bangor airports each year.”
