Tuesday fire at Sappi mill caused by boiler malfunction

Crews from Portland, South Portland, Windham and Gorham assisted the Westbrook fire department in putting out a blaze reported at the Sappi Fine Paper Mill in Westbrook Tuesday morning.

The Portland Press Herald reports that no injuries were reported at the mill, which is at 300 Warren Ave. The fire, which was reportedly caused by a boiler malfunction, caused minimal damage on the fifth and sixth floors of the building.

Crews will remain on the scene Tuesday morning to check for hot spots while the mill remains fully functional.
