Blue Hill Co-op's new home would triple current store size
The Blue Hill Planning board got a look at plans and the site layout for the new home of the Blue Hill Co-op as it looks to move to a larger storefront that would triple the size of its current location.
The Ellsworth American reported that the new home of the co-op would be on South Street, across from The Bay School, roughly a-mile-and-a-half from its current location on Green’s Hill.
“We’re hoping to break ground next year and have it done sometime in mid-2018, hopefully sooner,” Bruce Stahnke, the architect for the project, told the planning board according to the American. “The new store will be about 12,000 square feet. The existing store is 3,400 square feet.”
Stahnke told the planning board that the co-op’s relocation will also provide an opportunity to make that area of Blue Hill more pedestrian-friendly by including a crosswalk with blinking lights and road-striping. The South Street area is currently home to other businesses, including a drug store and a grocery store.
