Augusta food distributor plans $15M expansion

Performance Foodservice, an Augusta food distributor, has received the go-ahead from the city’s planning board to construct a $15 million freezer facility to meet growing demand for cold storage in northern New England and to expand its workforce.

The Kennebec Journal reported that construction on the expansion is due to begin in September. The project is expected to add 50,000 square feet of freezer space and a new 6-acre parking lot that will accommodate 100 tractor-trailers, the newspaper reported.

The company distributes food to schools, correctional facilities, hospitals and senior living communities as well as independent restaurants.
