Maine International Trade Center moves to waterfront

PHOTO / JAMES MCCARTHY The Maine International Trade Center has moved to the Portland waterfront from its former home at 511 Congress St.

It’s hard not to notice the “for lease” signs Cardente Real Estate has wrapped around the sizeable former digs of the Maine International Trade Center at 511 Congress St. in Portland.

Janine Cary, MITC president and state director of international trade, confirmed to Mainebiz that the international trade group has indeed moved to the Portland waterfront, perhaps a nod to its increasing role in overseas trade missions.

Yes, we are now on the waterfront! Down at 2 Portland fish pier in the Marine Trade Center,” Cary wrote to Mainebiz in an email.

So why move?

“Basically our lease was up and our rates were going to double for a very large space,” Cary wrote. “We had a nice 20-year run and celebrated this at Trade Day.”

Cary was a 2014 Mainebiz Next award winner for talented Mainers to watch as their career progresses.
