Ridership aboard The Cat rises, but empty seats remain

Ridership aboard The Cat continues to grow.
Despite an increase in the average daily ridership aboard Bay Ferries Ltd.’s new Portland-to-Nova ferry service, The Cat is still operating below capacity.
According to a release by the city of Portland, 5,194 passengers traveled from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, to Portland while 5,619 people made the trip to Nova Scotia during the month of July. During June, when The Cat only operated for half of the month, 1,534 arrived in Portland and 2,082 departed.
Day-by-day that equals an average of 349 passengers in July and 241 passengers traveling aboard The Cat in June, according to the Bangor Daily News. As Mainebiz reported in March, the ferry is able to hold approximately 866 passengers.
“The success is growing the numbers, the success is seeing that continued growth as we have this season,” Nova Scotia Transportation Minister Geoff MacLellan told CTV News.
