South Portland Wi-Fi program gauges public interest

South Portland city officials will use a pilot program that provides free Wi-Fi to visitors of Mill Creek Park to assess the plausibility and interest of public wireless access within the city.

According to The Forecaster the results of the park’s public hot spot program, which is in partnership with the Machias -based Axiom Technologies, will be analyzed this winter to see if a similar program could be implemented in the city’s Knightville neighborhood.

“Giving residents of South Portland more choices for broadband service, while driving our economy by providing free, limited Wi-Fi to the visitors of our city is something I am passionate about,” Chris Dumais, South Portland’s information technology director said in a release, according to The Forecaster.
