Northern Maine Medical Center paying $125K over drug-handling

Fort Kent-based Northern Maine Medical Center has agreed to pay $125,000 to settle allegations of its handling, documentation and destruction of drugs.

The Associated Press reported that the hospital, which has cooperated in the investigation, was accused of unlawfully distributing controlled drugs without proper registration.

Hospital officials admitted to no wrongdoing and said that all of its actions at the time complied with Controlled Substances Act requirements.
