Portland’s Moran’s Market pledges to rebuild following fire

The owners of Moran’s Market in Portland are vowing to rebuild the store that had been a mainstay of the Riverton neighborhood since 1956, following a fire that heavily damaged the restaurant and displaced residents of four upstairs apartments.

All of the apartment’s 10 residents escaped the fire, which started before midnight on Sunday night. According to WCSH-6TV, it’s believed that wiring in the salad bar started the fire, which damaged both the first and second floors of the building at 1576 Forest Ave.

“They are consistent, quality, friendly… they get to know your first name,” Tracy Herrick, a neighbor of the market told WCSH. "My kids ride their bikes up here to get their candy picked out and ride back home. We live just a few blocks away and this has been a staple for us and we've been in our house for 15 years and Moran's has always been here.”
