Three top Maine metro areas see slow GDP growth
The Portland, Bangor and Lewiston areas all received poor grades for their 2015 growth of gross domestic product, which measures the output of the metro area’s goods and services, according to the Portland Press Herald.
The Bureau of Economic Analysis on Tuesday released figures showing the metropolitan area of Portland-South Portland-Biddeford had the strongest growth of Maine’s three major metro areas, up 1.4% for the year and ranking it 199 out of the 382 metro areas in the United States, the newspaper wrote.
Bangor was up 1%, while Lewiston declined by 2.8%, leaving the latter ranked near the bottom nationwide at 370th.
