Maine Coast Waldorf School launches $6.1M expansion campaign

The Freeport-based Maine Coast Waldorf School has launched the largest capital campaign in its 32-year history to fund three major projects on its campus.

The Forecaster reported that the $6.1 million campaign will be used to build a new high school on the campus, expand the school’s Community Hall building and establish an educational support center.

The two-story, 11,000-square-foot high school at 57 Desert Road will replace the Maine Coast Waldorf School’s current facility, which it has leased from Pineland Farms for nearly a decade. It’s expected to be completed in the fall of 2017, according to The Forecaster.

“Having the new high school building on the Freeport campus will fulfill our decade-long dream of uniting the entire school,” teacher David Sloan said in a release, The Forecaster reported. “The older and younger students alike will finally be able to mutually benefit from daily contact.”

The expanded Community Hall building will add a new central office, a new café and kitchen for high school students and two spaces for music and drama programs, according to newspaper.
