$750K in fed funds bolster Sanford broadband access

The entrepreneurs that call the 600-acre industrial Mill Yard complex in downtown Sanford home will soon have access to an open-access municipal fiber optic network that will come to fruition through $769,209 in funding from the Economic Development Administration.

According to the offices of U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King, the fiber optic network will provide over 80 businesses and institutions in the city with access to high-speed broadband.

“Access to the internet is a vital resource that can connect Maine people to the information and opportunities they need to succeed in today’s digital world,” the senators said in their joint statement. “This funding is a significant investment in Maine’s broadband infrastructure and the future of the Sanford area. We will continue to work with our partners at all levels of government and in the private sector to promote broadband expansion across Maine.”
