Clam Casino pizza anyone? The South Portland-based Willows Pizza will be taking over the former 740 Broadway home of SoPo Bar and Grill restaurant following the restaurant’s sudden closure last week.

Willows Pizza owner David Lengyel said he plans to re-hire as many former SoPo Bar and Grille employees as possible, and will be expanding his current staff of 18 to approximately 30 employees, according to a release.

Willows Pizza has operated at 1422 Broadway in South Portland’s Cash Corner neighborhood since its founding 1989. In its 27 years in business, the pizza joint has offered patrons its specialty pies including the “Deli Department,” which is topped appropriately enough with pepperoni, meatballs, ham, bacon, sausage and salami. And for the veggie lovers, Willows has the “Produce Department” pizza, which is topped mushrooms, black olives, tomatoes, onions and roasted peppers.

And then there is the Clam Casino, topped with white clam sauce, onion, bacon, garlic, Romano cheese and oregano. Pizza aficionados can get a taste of the specialty pies at Willows’ new location when it opens at the beginning of November.
