Regulators set to make ruling on upcoming scallop season

How large will Maine’s scallop fishing season be? Fishermen in the state will soon find out.

The Associated Press reported that state regulators will be making a decision if fisherman will be able to continue catching the same amount of scallops this winter as they did last year. The market for the popular seafood has remained steady in recent years. Maine fishermen have been enjoying both the high prices and the between 300,000 and 600,000 pounds of meat caught.

The AP added that state officials want to close scallop fishing areas, including the Sheepscot River and Muscongus Bay, for the upcoming season, which runs from December to April.
