The price for a gallon of gas in Maine continues to rise

Slow and steady is the name of the game for increasing gas prices in the state of Maine, as the average price for a gallon of gas rose by a penny to $2.27.

In the week ending Tuesday morning, the average national price for a gallon of gas dropped by two cents to $2.23, according to the price-tracking website Gasbuddy.

The $2.27 statewide average in Maine is higher than New Hampshire's $2.17, but equal to Vermont's price per gallon average.

“Oil prices fell $1 per barrel last week, but maintained the $50-per-barrel level due to concern over the likelihood of OPEC and non-OPEC countries cutting oil production in the weeks ahead,” Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy, said in a release: “A barrel of West Texas Intermediate crude oil did not close once under $50 last week, solidifying a new floor at the higher price for the time being.”
