Massimo’s pizza closure makes way for Italian bistro

Massimo’s Pizza Bar in downtown Bangor permanently closed on Monday after less than a year of business, and its owners said they will sell it to local restaurateur Bob Cutler.

The Bangor Daily News reported that pizzeria’s owners, Massimo and Anne Marie Ranni, will continue to operate their popular Brewer bakery and hope to add a retail storefront at the Stevens Road property where Massimo bakes goods that are sold at local stores.

“The decision to sell the restaurant was one we had been considering for some time, and when Bob came to us, we felt it was the perfect fit,” Ranni said in a news release, according to the BDN. “The sale will allow us to focus on the bakery and continue to do what we love.”

Cutler, who also owns The Family Dog restaurant in Orono and the Stray Dog food trucks, told the BDN that he plans on opening an Italian-inspired bistro at the former pizza bar, located at 96 Hammond St., once renovations are complete.
