Lincoln Street Center interested in buying McLain School

The owner of Lincoln Street Center, a former school that has found a new lease on life as a Rockland-based arts center, has expressed interest in purchasing yet another school property in the city.

Regional School Unit 13 Business Manager Peter Orne told the Bangor Daily News that Mario Abaldo, the owner of Lincoln Street Center, contacted him earlier in the year about the possibility of purchasing the McLain School at 28 Lincoln St., which is currently being used for alternative education, informational technology and administrative offices.

According to the BDN, the McLain School is slated to close in the summer of 2017, at which point the district would offer to sell the property back to the city, which could then sell the building. If the city decided it wasn’t interested in the property, RSU 13 could choose to sell it.
