UNE expands North Atlantic, Arctic reach with Icelandic partnership

The University of New England is partnering with the University of Akureyri and Holar University College in Iceland to expand its education, research and economic development reach in the North Atlantic and Arctic regions.

The partnership, which was signed during the 2016 Arctic Circle Assembly in Reykjavik last week, will help UNE expand its undergraduate exchange program, develop an international master’s degree programs and strengthen the Maine university’s existing partnerships with the Iceland Ocean Cluster House, the New England Ocean Cluster, the Maine North Atlantic Development Office and other marine business partners.

“Our partnerships in Iceland are another opportunity for our students and faculty to explore areas of critical interest, especially in the marine economy," UNE Vice President Anouar Majid said in a release. “The island nation is the gateway to a part of the world that is getting a lot of attention from the world community."
