These communities are offering free Election Day transportation

Election Day traffic will be somewhat alleviated in Bangor, Portland, Falmouth, Yarmouth and Freeport, as the Portland METRO and the Bangor Community Connector bus service will offer free rides to patrons on Nov. 8.

"It takes away a barrier for some people," METRO marketing director Denise Beck told Maine Public. "There's going to be a lot of traffic, it may be hard some people to get to the polls. We have frequent service throughout the area; it'll be pretty easy because we have routes all over the place."

Beck told Maine Public that all of METRO’s routes, including express service between Portland, Falmouth, Yarmouth and Freeport, will be free on Election Day.

In Bangor, city official Meghan Collins told Maine Public that all of the city’s Community Connector busses will be free all day, with no tickets needed.

“Well, what we've done in the past is we've offered free rides to voters to and from the polls on the bus," Collins told Maine Public. "This year what we're doing different is we're expanding that free option to all bus patrons."
