Among the stops on the SK Tours of Maine is Stephen King's house, located in Bangor.
Scary clowns might be terrorizing communities across the country, but if you want to visit Derry, the town where the fright first entered the minds of many after Pennywise from Stephen King’s novel “It” terrorized children, you might want to take a trip with SK Tours of Maine.
Of course Derry is a fictional town, concocted in the mind of novelist Stephen King, but SK Tours does give visitors in search of a fright a tour of Bangor — the Maine city that King based Derry on — and between 25 and 30 spots that King invoked in approximately 24 of his novels and short stories, Maine Public reported.
And it’s a tour popular around the globe, with tour guide Stu Tinker telling Maine Public that visitors from all over visit Bangor to get a look at landmarks, including the Oriental Jade, which became Jade of the Orient in “It,” and the actual manhole where King first pictured Pennywise emerging from in the novel.
“It’s amazing how many people come to Bangor, Maine, because of Stephen King. I’ve had people from Kuwait, I’ve had people from China, people from Russia, it’s from all over the world, and they’re all brought here because of Steve. He doesn’t want to admit that he’s a celebrity, but he certainly is,” Tinker told Maine Public.
