Family illnesses temporary close Taco Trio restaurants

The two Greater Portland locations of the popular Mexican eatery Taco Trio will be temporarily closed until early 2017 as the restaurants’ family owners deal with family illnesses.

The Forecaster spoke to Karen Rasmussen, who along with her husband Manuel Pena, own the original South Portland Taco Trio location at 119 Ocean St., and the Portland location at 1706 Forest Ave. Rasmussen told The Forecaster that she needs to care for her father, who has been in and out of the hospital and to help Pena, who is recovering from treatment for prostate cancer.

“In a way, we’ve been going through this for a year and a half without very many people knowing,” Rasmussen told The Forecaster.

Rasmussen added that she’ll also use the temporary closure to tackle projects at the two restaurants that she couldn’t get to with the store being open seven days a week.

“We don’t want people to worry. We’ll be fine,” Rasmussen told The Forecaster. “We just really need to take a break.”
