EMCC launches human services degree program to meet employer demand

Eastern Maine Community College plans to launch a new associate degree program in human services in January 2017, which the Bangor-based college says will meet a growing demand from employers within the state.

“EMCC is responsive to the employer needs of the community, and the human services program was established to address the high demand for workers qualified to provide community-based services in our region,” Liz Russell, dean of academic affairs, said in a prepared statement. “We anticipate that graduates will be qualified to immediately enter the workforce or continue their education at any number of institutions offering baccalaureate degrees in related fields.”

According to the college, the new program will prepare students for employment within social service organizations, hospitals, programs for the elderly and community mental health centers with a curriculum designed to meet the competencies for the Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician/Community certification offered through the state of Maine.
