Amtrak Downeaster expands Boston service
Starting Monday, passengers traveling aboard the Amtrak Downeaster will have yet another option for traveling to Boston, as the commuter train service is introducing a third daily round-trip between Brunswick, Freeport and Beantown.
The Amtrak Downeaster makes five round-trips each day between Portland and Boston. Since November 2012, two of those round-trips have extended to Freeport and Brunswick.
Beginning on Nov. 21, the frequency of service to Freeport and Brunswick will increase to three round-trips each day with the addition of a new late morning southbound departure and new evening arrival times, according to a release from Amtrak.
It’s been a good year for the New England commuter rail service. As Mainebiz reported, ridership aboard the Downeaster for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30 saw an increase in ridership of 18.9% over the same time last year, with 500,081 passengers traveling aboard the train.
