Eaton Peabody law firm on the move in Portland

Courtesy of Eaton Peabody Eaton Peabody plans to move its Portland office from One Portland Square to a new larger space at 100 Middle St. in Portland in the first quarter of 2017. The move is driven by the firm's growth in clients and attorneys at its Portland office.

PORTLAND — Nearly four years after the opening of its Portland office, the law firm of Eaton Peabody has leased larger space at 100 Middle St. in Portland and plans to move to that location during the first quarter of 2017.

Currently, Eaton Peabody's office is at One Portland Square. The Bangor-based  firm ranks No. 6 among law Maine law firms, based on the number of attorneys in the state, with 51, according to a Mainebiz list published Nov. 14.

Its move comes three years after the law firm opened its Portland office. In a release announcing the move, Eaton Peabody reported that it has experienced close to 300% growth in its Portland office and a 30% growth in its attorney ranks throughout the firm, which caused the firm to seek larger office space earlier than expected.

"For some firms growth means opening up offices out of state but Eaton Peabody has experienced growth right here in Maine,”  David Austin, president of Eaton Peabody, said in a statement. “As we take on more work statewide, growth is a natural result to better serve our clients and expand our services."

At 100 Middle St., the firm will join tenants that include law firm Bernstein Shur, the accounting firm Berry Dunn, Citizen’s Bank and Morgan Stanley. The building, developed by Michael A. Liberty in the 1980s, was acquired last year by Boston-based Albany Road Real Estate Partners, which paid $35.3 million.

Resident attorneys of Eaton Peabody’s Portland office when it moves to 100 Middle St. will be: Neal Pratt, Seth Brewster, Matt Worthen, Bruce Hochman, Ed Feibel, David Pierson, David Wakelin, Leslie Hallock, Anne O'Donovan, Erica Johanson, Alfred Frawley III and Micah Smart.

Formed in 1939, Eaton Peabody is a Maine-based law firm with offices in Augusta, Bangor, Brunswick, Ellsworth and, as noted, Portland.
