Maine fares well in national fraud rankings

Maine experiences far less fraud and identity theft than most other states, Maine Public reported, citing a study by WalletHub, the consumer and finance data site.

The study, “2016’s States Most Vulnerable to Identity Theft & Fraud,” was released Nov. 30. Of the 50 states plus Washington, D.C., Maine received an overall ranking of 50, an identity theft rank of 37 and a fraud rank of 51.

WalletHub said the comparison was made across six key indicators of susceptibility to such crimes, ranging from “identity-theft complaints per capita” to “average loss amount due to fraud.”
