New Lewiston shop wraps around burrito trend

Lisbon Street in Lewiston is getting a new cuisine in the form of the trendy burrito, with a nice twist just in time for the holidays: customers can anonymously buy burritos for others.

Ben’s Burrito owners Tricia Tomlinson and Ben Scott met at a Portland nightclub 20 years ago and reconnected several years ago. For the past month they’ve been transforming the former Cupcakery on Liston Street into the family-friendly Ben’s Burritos with a serve-local philosophy and a “pay if forward” wall for customers to surprise others with a free burrito, according to the Sun Journal. They plan to open Dec. 19.

“I think people are really willing to show up for something positive and giving and contributing in a way that's not too showy,” Tomlinson told the paper.

Burritos have made inroads in the Portland market over the past year, including OCHO Burrito, El Rayo and the tiny food truck Saltbox Café, which have burritos on their menus.
