The U.S. Navy awarded Cianbro Corp. of Pittsfield a $27 million contract for construction and dock repairs at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King announced Friday.

In November, Cianbro landed a $29 million contract to support repairs and modernization of structures at a berth at the Kittery shipyard.

“The work done at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard has a direct impact on our national security, and this contract for Cianbro will help make sure that the shipyard is well-equipped to continue in its important mission,” Collins and King said in a joint statement.

This competitively awarded contract will support replacement of the caisson at the shipyard’s dry dock No. 3. The work will also provide repairs to the concrete entrance structures of the dry dock, and is expected to be completed by May 2019.

Collins is a senior member of the Senate Defense Appropriations Subcommittee and King is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
