Maine's aerospace exports post a record year in 2016

Aerospace exports became the state’s second-most-valuable export industry after seafood in 2016, reaching a record $312 million.

The Portland Press Herald reported that exports of aircraft, engines and parts accounted for about 11% of the state's $2.8 billion in foreign exports.

The newspaper reported that Pratt & Whitney’s manufacturing plant in North Berwick is a big driver of those aerospace exports, with its engines being used by jet manufacturers in France, Russia, Canada, Brazil and Japan.

Germany was the top destination for Maine’s aviation industry last year, followed by Canada, Japan and the United Kingdom, the newspaper reported.
