After a three-month search, the Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce named a new president and CEO.

The organization said Wednesday it hired Rebecca Swanson Conrad, who starts March 27. She lives in Auburn and has extensive experience in the area, including owning two shops and working at Bates College after graduating. For the past decade, she has worked at Maine College of Art, most recently as vice president for institutional advancement. She has extensive volunteer experience, including as chair of the Lewiston Auburn Economic Growth Council.

She replaces Matt Leonard, who resigned last fall after 18 months on the job.

Conrad was chosen from a pool of 50 applicants. The 11-person selection committee went through three rounds of interviews, including the final one in front of the entire board, extensive testing and thorough reference checks. The selection committee was assisted by a former board chair, Art Boulay of Strategic Talent Management.

The Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, which is based at 415 Lisbon St. in Lewiston, serves Lewiston, Auburn and the surrounding communities. It offers networking events, professional development opportunities, educational scholarships and practical resources to help professionals advance and businesses of all sizes grow.
