Katie Doherty, a Waterville native, has been promoted to president and CEO of the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce.

The chamber said on Thursday that Doherty has served as the Augusta-based organization’s program director since 2015, leading programming like the Kenney Awards and the chamber’s annual business expo.

She replaces Ross Cunningham, who resigned in October after two years.

“During her time with the chamber, Katie has proven herself to be a motivated, creative, and effective leader. She truly cares about the success of the Kennebec Valley and is willing to work hard, going above and beyond to support our businesses and communities,” Stacey Morrison, chair of the chamber’s board of directors, said in a news release.

The chamber said also promoted Patty Hewett from vice president of operations to chief operations officer.

Doherty is the second chamber leader to be named this week.

The Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce named Rebecca Swanson Conrad as its president and CEO, filling the void from Matt Leonard’s resignation in the fall.

The Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce serves the communities of Augusta, Belgrade, Chelsea, Gardiner, Hallowell, Winthrop, Dresden, Farmingdale, Fayette, Jefferson, Litchfield, Manchester, Monmouth, Mount Vernon, Pittston, Randolph, Readfield, Richmond, Somerville, Wayne, West Gardiner, Whitefield and Windsor.
