Maine Fishermen’s Forum on tap

The 42nd annual Maine Fishermen’s Forum is coming up March 2-4 at the Samoset Resort in Rockport. It will feature three days of commercial fishing industry seminars, a trade show, and socializing and networking opportunities.

The forum will host fishermen, gear suppliers, scientists, government and other stakeholders to collaborate on all things fishing: markets, resource status, regulations, the latest in technology, the environment and more.

Over 120 suppliers of commercial fishing equipment and services exhibit at the forum each year.

The focus on March 2 is shellfish, with topics including municipal shellfish management, clam field experiments, and ownership of the intertidal zone.

On March 3 topics will include survival training, groundfish monitoring, the Maine Lobstermen’s Association 63nd annual meeting, halibut management and science, scallop management and herring management.

The sessions on March 4 will include free inspections of immersion suits, the annual meetings of the Maine Elver Fishermen’s Association and the Alewife Harvesters of Maine, the pre-season meeting of the Maine Lobster Boat Racing Association, an explanation of proposed deepwater coral closures in the Gulf of Maine, an overview of Maine’s wild and farmed seaweed industry, and an update on scientific findings related to lobster.
